Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) is one of Europe's most efficiently designed airports, and its car hire centre reflects that — all major brands are under one roof in the basement level of Schiphol Plaza (the main terminal building). Getting from arrivals to your car takes typically 15–20 minutes.

Driving in Amsterdam's city centre isn't recommended — the road network is complex, cyclists have priority everywhere, and parking is expensive and scarce. However, a rental car opens up the wider Netherlands and cross-border trips into Belgium, Germany, or France.
