Car Rental at Barcelona Airport
Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) is one of Spain's busiest airports, and its car hire facilities reflect this — a large dedicated rental centre serves all major providers in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. BCN is an excellent starting point for exploring Catalonia, the Costa Daurada, and beyond.
Driving into Barcelona city centre is possible but not always worth it — parking is expensive and the metro is fast. For the first day or two, consider using the airport train into the city (Renfe L10 S), then collecting your car when you start your road trip.
Road Trip Ideas from Barcelona Airport
- Costa Brava — 90 km north. Rugged Mediterranean coastline, medieval villages, clear blue water.
- Tarragona — 100 km south. Roman ruins and a beautiful old town, much quieter than Barcelona.
- Montserrat — 60 km north-west. Dramatic mountain monastery — one of Catalonia's most iconic sites.
- Valencia — 350 km south. City of paella, art museums, and the City of Arts and Sciences.
Tips for BCN Car Hire
- Barcelona is very popular — book at least 3 weeks in advance in summer to get good rates.
- Smaller one-way rentals to Madrid or Valencia are common and often have low or zero drop fees.
- Check that your CDW covers glass and tyre damage — some Spanish roads have debris that causes tyre punctures.
