• Portugal has Via Verde electronic toll lanes on most motorways — ask your provider for a toll transponder (usually called Via Verde or similar) to avoid stopping at cash booths.
• Lisbon hills and narrow streets mean small and medium cars are much easier to manoeuvre than larger vehicles.
• Algarve rentals peak in July–August. If you're heading south, book at least 4 weeks ahead.
