Car Rental at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport
Paris CDG is France's main international airport and one of the busiest in Europe. The car hire centre is located at Terminal 2 — accessible from Terminals 1 and 3 via the free Cdgval automated shuttle. All major brands have desks there, with an enormous fleet covering everything from mini cars to luxury vehicles.
Driving in Paris city centre is not recommended for most visitors — traffic is heavy, parking is expensive, and the metro is excellent. However, a rental car is perfect for exploring Normandy, the Loire Valley, Champagne, or the Côte d'Azur.
Practical Notes for CDG Car Hire
- Péages (motorway tolls) are common in France. Ask whether your rental includes a toll transponder or you'll need cash/card for toll booths.
- Vignette stickers are required in some French city centres (ZFE zones). Confirm this with your rental company.
- Speed cameras are frequent — GPS is strongly recommended.
- One-way to other countries — France to Spain, Italy, or Germany one-way rentals are popular and usually available for a small fee.
